The atheistic country of Uruguay has legalized prostitution, abortion, marijuana, and same-sex marriage! Hope for Uruguay 100 will bring hope to communities across this secular nation by providing permanent buildings for established, growing congregations.
DESCRIPTION: Hope for Uruguay 100 is an initiative to build 100 churches in 10 years throughout Uruguay, which is known as one of the most unevangelized nations in the Americas. This project is an unprecedented opportunity with the national church, a passionate missionary, and Builders to double the number of churches. Cities with newly-planted churches and existing congregations, whose buildings are inadequate, will be blessed with a place of worship. In this collaboration, the local church purchases the property and completes the finish-work in the building, while churches and mission teams from the U.S. come alongside them to help provide the church facility.
BENEFITS: A building adds immense value to a new congregation. It provides a central place within the community for evangelism, discipleship, worship, and fellowship. Needs are met, lives are changed, and families are transformed. A new building also gives the pastor credibility within the community. A partnership with local pastors and congregations to build needed structures gives the people of this atheistic nation an opportunity to hear the life-transforming message of the Gospel. By collaborating with our missionaries and the national church, there is an opportunity to change a life, change a community, and provide a place to belong. Together, we build places where people find hope and see the Gospel spread throughout Uruguay.

In a largely atheistic country where there is not access to many Bible-preaching churches close to where people live, hope is needed.
Missionaries Steve and Jill McCarthy are impassioned to reach the people in Uruguay and are ready for God to move. In this video, you will have the opportunity to see and learn about Uruguay, meet the McCarthy family, as well as hear how God is going to usher hope into this hurting nation.
Check out the video to find out how!

“Missionary Steve McCarthy’s plan for 2021 was to complete Church #5 and the next six church buildings. Jill was ready for the boys to go back to school, but then came the infamous lockdown. As of recent, churches were allowed to reopen at 25% capacity.
The story of Church #5 continues with the pastor and his volunteers. Steve will arrive on site with a group of national volunteers to install the roof and complete the interior. Builders funded a portion of this church building.
Wisely, Steve was able to submit all paperwork for the next four churches before the government office was shut down. Hopefully, as soon as the office is reopened the permits will be released. Building materials have been purchased for three foundations with construction completion targeted before the end of May. Pray for this strategy to become reality.
Dynamic progress is being made with Hope for Uruguay in spite of Covid-19 worldwide. Recently, Steve was permitted travel with church planters to dream, cast vision, and locate potential sites.
The current scope of work for Hope for Uruguay is
· Four church buildings completed (#4 is pictured above)
· One church building underway
· Four churches with permits pending
· Three churches fully funded
· Six new church building sites identified, purchase pending
Church construction teams from the US are not permitted at this time. But there is hope! These are special times in Uruguay. There has never been expansion of the Assemblies of God footprint like there has been today. The Holy Spirit is inspiring pastors with vision and determination to plant and build churches. The national leadership sees the doubling of the number of churches within this decade. Pray for our missionaries and our national pastors in Uruguay.” - Uruguay Project Champion, Carley Touchstone

SCOPE OF 2020 – In review
The McCarthys returned from furlough/iteration in the US in early January, 2020. Quickly they jumped into ministry and prepared for four construction teams set to begin in September.
Covid 19 became the issue worldwide. AGWM requested the McCarthys to return to the US for their protection and Jill’s pregnancy. All construction teams were cancelled with funding for the four churches.
On June 20th they welcomed Julia which set into motion plans to return to Montevideo, the place of their calling. Delay followed by rescheduling with deadlines passing. What was going to happen to the construction projects was the question.
On September 3, 2020 the McCarthys were on their way back to Uruguay.
Volunteers and Steve’s ministry partners had poured the first three foundations and the fourth was completed on September 9th. God was on time with the projects even though man’s time had been interrupted by Covid 19.
Church # 1, Life Encounter Church, Flor de Maronas with Pastors Marcelo and Virginia Bastos was completed with funding from the New York Ministry Network under the leadership of Superintendent Duane Durst and Missions Director Esther Terry.
Church #2, Living Stones Church, Chico, Canelones with Pastors Roberto and Gaby Madruga was completed with funding from Bethany Church under the leadership of Pastor Jason James.
Church #3, Center for Renewed Faith, Salinas, Canelones with Pastors Pablo and Claudia Garcia was completed with funding from Bethlehem Church, Valley Stream, NY under the leadership of Pastor Steve Milazo.
Church #4, Christian Center of Quaquay, Lorenzo Geyes, Paysandu with Pastors Marcelo and Cecilia Emmenegger was completed with funding by Vasilia First Assembly of God, Vasilia, CA under the leadership of Pastor Mike Robertson.
Church #5, Zion Church, Barrio Blanco, Uruguay was started by Pastor Daniel and Christina Suarez by the church and then asked for Missionary Steve for assistance. The church is doing the work except for the roof with funding by an individual donor from Texas.
